
It is the mission of Damon's House, Inc. to bridge the gap of understanding that allows us to accept those persons who are least understood in society. i.e. persons with autism.
It is our mission to be awareness about the challenges and obstacles a person with autism must face in coping with the issues of social/recreation interaction.
It
is our mission to develop in persons with autism those coping skills needed to
penetrate the walls of isolation that surrounds persons with autism.
At Damon's House, Inc. the parent/guardian or significant other will have a sense of security knowing their loved one is being cared for in an environment that understands the needs of persons with autism. Working together as a team, we will continue to Shine a Ray of Hope for the autistic community.
Consumers may be admitted to the program without regard to race, creed, color, religion or disability. Persons wishing to enroll in the program may contact Damon’s House, Inc., The Your Choice program through Detroit-Wayne County Community Mental Health Agency, Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit, Wayne Center Association, or Detroit Public School Referral.

The Name:
Damon's
House
DAMON: Damon was a young person born with autism. His family realizing the short comings concerning his care hence developed and implemented a program. This program assist persons with autism manage the social anxiety often felt when interacting with others. The program activities helps to break through the wall of isolation person’s with autism often build around themselves for protection. Although Damon's has since passed away his family still continues to Shine a Ray of Hope for other families who have children with autism.
H.O.U.S.E.: (Hands of Understanding Socialization
Encounter)
It is our belief that the social
encounter and interaction with others causes person with autism to
experience feelings of anxiety. This anxiety is what causes them
to act out and display unwanted behavior. Through our program we
provide the opportunity for social interaction in an environment
conducive to the specific sensory needs of the person with autism.
In a nut shell Damon’s
H.O.U.S.E., simply means Damon’s
Hands
of
Understanding
Social
Encounter.
Through Damon’s House we offer a program and extends hands that
assist the person with autism and their family with managing behavior.
We do not offer a miracle cure; we simply offer practices and techniques
that move the individual closer to normalization
